How-To: Preparation

Preparation

Strip away any existing wallpaper by soaking with wallpaper stripper and by using a scraper. All the bare walls should be sound, clean and dry. Fill any holes and sand down once set. Porous surfaces should be sealed will diluted wallpaper adhesive or size.

Most wallpaper manufacturers will recommend using a lining paper and is often recommended with embossed and high quality wallpaper. Lining can also help hide imperfections. Cross lining is to apply the paper horizontally so that the joins will never match the top layer. You will need a spirit level to ensure the paper is straight.
